Indecision limits the results we realize and can often cause us to become overwhelmed. Being decisive, on the other hand, can have a positive influence on the results we achieve.
Good decision making in is so vital in the business world that the January 2006 edition of the Harvard Business Review is focused purely on it. A neat passage in this edition shares about a Fortune 500 CEO who estimates that the businessperson who gets it right just 51% of the time will rise to the top of their industry. This really shows the importance to good decision making.
In today's edition, you'll discover more about indecisiveness and how to stop indecision today.

Decisiveness:
The Difference Between Getting Results
& Becoming Overwhelmed
As you may know, I enjoy watching the TV reality series "The Apprentice" with Donald Trump. On the NBC "Apprentice" website, information is shared about each of the weekly lessons. In the lesson on "How to Be a Top-Notch Leader," I found this great entry:
"Be decisive. Make decisions as you go along. Do not let them accumulate. A backlog of many little decisions can be harder to deal with than a big and complex one. At the same time, avoid snap decisions. Move fast on the reversible ones. Reflect more on the non-reversible ones."
What Causes Indecision?
Sometimes we don't have sufficient information to make a decision and effort may be required to find the information. We avoid the effort and the decision.
-
Often we try to prevent discomfort by delaying a decision. If we know or expect someone will not be happy with our choice, we may choose to postpone the decision to avoid the ensuing conflict or discomfort.
-
Sometimes there is actually a multiple of decisions that need to be made that all impact each other and it's hard to identify which one needs to be made first.
-
Sometimes we know exactly what we want and have no problem making the decision, but we avoid the action that goes along with it because of the implications that go with it.
What are the Costs of Indecisiveness?
Often we'll miss time-sensitive opportunities if we wait too long.
-
When we are indecisive, especially on many little things, we can easily get overwhelmed about it - and this can be a huge personal cost.
So what is the first thing we can do to address indecision today?
